John and Diane Atkinson have always loved travel, family, and quality craftsmanship. In 1982, when John worked in real estate and Diane was a nurse, they began to discuss ways to combine their passions with a new career.
As both loved to entertain (John & Diane already owned seven sets of china), the decision came easily: bring to Vancouver all the stunning brands they had seen on their travels. Brands like Baccarat and Lalique – seldom found in Canada – that defined their love of the stunning. In March of 1985, they opened their first store, and after a decade of growth, built their current location at the corner of Granville and West 6th Avenue – just across the Granville Street Bridge.
Their success is driven by a passion for sharing beauty, finding the unique, and presenting the exceptional – passions they have passed on to their children. Eldest son J.J. began the online division, which has acquired a clientele requiring everything from dinnerware for celebrity private jets, to a complete dining table for twelve for the private dining room in the presidential suite of the famous Terelj Hotel in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Daughter Becky has a passion for detail that translates to very happy bridal registry clients while second son Danny explores the blending of his love of fine food with the latest contemporary dinnerware trends.
Above all, Atkinson’s is a family business, and it’s personal: “We love Baccarat and Lalique as much now as when we started,” Diane says. “The artistry behind who made them and what they are continues to amaze us. And we love sharing this with our customers.”
Sharing our passion for the finer things in life brings us great joy, as we continue to search the world to bring our customers the unique, the storied and the exquisitely beautiful.
